Lychees

I love lychees....in fact I'm addicted to them. Unlike 99.99999% of my fellow desis I'm not really into mangoes, but lychees are so deliciously different...

My local stores have not had any shipments for the last three weeks and I'm going insane just thinking about the rose fragranced fruit, and it's delicate flesh inside.....

If this drought continues for much longer I may have to make my way to Thailand myself...

They are different...umm umm good.
Although I am crazy about mangoes (which are in short supply in Calgary - nothing grows here and everything is shipped - and they don't taste as good as the ones back home), I love lychees as well.

I forgot the name of the place, and the company that made excellent lychee juice, on the way from Chandigarh to Shimla that was our favorite stop over. Of course, nothing compares to the taste of fresh lychees

Jas,

Welcome to the lychee fan club.

Hey, I once took that little train from just outside Chandigarh to Shimla...one of the best holiday memories ever.

ps. Vodka and lychee juice tastes sublime. :)

Sphere Bhaji, never tried vodka with lychee juice, but sure sounds good.

(Must hunt for lychees)

That train ride is good, isn't it. I took that just once, and all other times we just drove.

While my Dad was posted at Shimla, my then 2 year old was fascinated by trains. Often times we had to drive to Tara Devi (few kms off Shimla) so that she could watch the choo choo train....
Time flies, she is turning 14 in two weeks!

I like lychee juice more than the lychees. However, my choice of favorite fruit keeps changing. Its like a "swayamvar" (a ceremony in ancient India, where prospective grooms tried to win over the bride, usually a princess), where fruits get to win my heart. These days my favorite is Orange, rather Tangerines. The other fruit I love is a Plum, as long as it is sweet and soft.

Jas ji, I don't remember the name as well, but the place was between Chandigarh and Kasauli. My friends and I used to ride upto that place on our bikes. That was in 1992-94. A few years later, I relived those days with my girlfriend, when I came back to Chandigarh to complete my internship. We got married that very year. It was a wonderful time, and those drives up the hill hold a very special place for us.

Jas,

Thanks for clearing up the "2 year old" mystery. :) For a moment there, I thought you had another story to tell....

Dr sahib,

Please tell us more about your prem kahani...sounds interesting.. (and if you can incorporate a lychee angle into the story that would be even better !!) :))
